☀ S T A T S & G A M E P L A Y

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

Pinefallow Park is built on creativity, thinking outside the box, and puzzles. Although there will be some "combat," there will almost always be better ways to achieve your goal than reducing your enemies' health to 0. After all -- you will be going up against creatures and situations much bigger, badder, and more magickal than yourself. It will take brains, creativity, guts, and following clues to stand a chance.

STATS

"Stats" (or "statistics") show what your character is naturally good at -- and naturally bad at.

BODY: Overall health, strength, endurance, quickness, sturdiness, and dexterity
MIND: Mental abilities, such as intelligence, wit, ability to learn, persuasion, perception, deception, and investigation
SOUL: Magick, luck, willpower, determination, and spirit; can sometimes represent psychic ability, empathy, and unity with nature

Your ATTACK is Body + Mind + Soul divided by 2 (rounded down). Items and skills can boost this.

Your DEFENSE is Body + Mind + Soul divided by 2 (rounded down). Items and skills can boost this.

Your HEALTH is Body + Mind + Soul multiplied by 5. Items and skills can boost this.

The reason why Attack, Defense, and Health are affected by Body, Mind, and Soul is so that you can have a mind-focused character or a magickal-focused character and not be completely screwed over in combat. Usually in roleplays, you have to choose between magick, persuasiveness/intellect, and combat ability; in this system, you don't have to.

That being said, everyone's Attack, Defense, and Health will still be different, because you purchase items, skills, and stats out of the same point pool. Some people might want more stats, some people might want more items and skills. So, everyone starts with a different number of BODY, MIND, and SOUL stats, and consequently possess different ATTACK, DEFENSE, and HEALTH.

If this sounds complicated, please do not worry! First of all, you won't be asked to choose your stats alone. We'll help you! It's much simpler than it sounds.

GAMEPLAY

For every combat, skill check, stealth, or persuasive situation, you will virtually roll two 6-sided die. Then you add numbers from your stats, skills, and/or items to try to tip the balance in your favor.

For example, say that you are trying to jump over a long chasm. You would roll 2d6 + BODY.

However, humans can't naturally jump over a gap so large! You would have to get a perfect roll to succeed! The chances of that are very low.

Luckily, however, you picked up the Longjump skill, as well as magickal boots. Longjump lets you add 1d6, and thanks to the boots, you get to add +2. So your roll is now 3d6 + BODY + 2. Your chances have greatly improved!

This is why skills and items are of paramount importance at Pinefallow Park. Humans cannot naturally achieve many of the obstacles you will encounter, so your stats alone will not be enough. And as the story progresses, and more and more skills and items are unlocked for you to obtain, you can become more powerful -- and more magickal.

Again, if any of this sounds complicated, don't worry! Every single time you are asked to roll, the mods will give you a formula to simply copy/paste. E.g., we would say "Please type /r 1d6 + BODY + 3," and all you would have to do is copy/paste "/r 1d6 + BODY + 3" and replace the word "BODY" with your character's body score. It's totally brainless, we promise -- the moderators will do all the thinking for you.

HOW TO BUILD A CHARACTER

Each OC receives 180 points that they can spend on BODY, MIND, SOUL, items, and skills.

Stat Scale

0-3: Below adult average
4: Adult average
5-6: Above adult average
7+: High above adult average

The #1 thing that we want you to understand in Pinefallow is that it is okay to be below average, and items and skills are 10x more important than stats. Think of it this way: you're a normal, squishy human being. You're going to fight dragons. Brute forcing it will not work. Much of the time, it may actually be impossible to reduce your enemies to 0 HP. That is why it's better to think of each combat as a puzzle we have set up for you, with many clues on how to win.

We recommend that you spend 40-50% of your points on stats, and the rest on items and skills.

TIP: Instead of trying to make the "maximum efficiency" character, try to genuinely assign your stats according to what your character is truly good -- and bad -- at. It will open up a lot of roleplay avenues for you if you assign your stats realistically, and skills can always make up for your deficiencies later.

New items and skills will be added to the SHOP about 2x per month.
